We spent a couple of days in Phuket recently. The last time we were in Phuket was in late 2004, before the Tsunami. So we thought it would be good to see what has happened to Phuket since then. We were pleasantly surprised to see Phuket is still thriving, as if the Tsunami didn't happen at all. The only signs were the memorials and the warning and evacuation signs in the higher risk areas.
For a change, we stayed in Laguna Phuket instead of the usual Patpong, Kata, Karon areas. The next few photos are taken at the Allamanda beach and swimming pool areas.
We were surprised to see that Kan Eang was upgraded to be quite an upmarket restaurant. When we were last here, it reminded us of Kheng Luck in Upper East Coast Road. They still use the coconut husks for the BBQ though.
We were fortunate that our time in Phuket coincided with the
Loy Krathong (which translates to
float banana boat) festival. We managed to launch a balloon similar to that shown below, and the night sky was very beautiful with thousands of balloons that night.
HY and TP found a new game that they really enjoyed - mini golf.
